Halloween!!!

Great Grandma and many kids

From left to right: Carlo, Noelle, Linzi, Great Grandma Jackie, Olivia, Nicky and William.

Noelle was Ariel, the mermaid princess.

Carlo was a lady bug (his choice).

And, Nicky was Anakin Skywalker from the 2nd Star Wars movie. :-)

As for our friends, Olivia was a rock star.

Linzi was a power ranger police officer.

And, William was a purple dragon.

More pictures can be found in the Halloween 2008 photo album.

FiveThirtyEight.com: Electoral Projections Done Right: On the Road: Northern Virginia

October 21st, 2008

I have been sucked into the beauty that is fivethirtyeight.com. I’m not a statistician (I’ve often regretted never having taken a statistics class — though the Nate’s modeling is well beyond Statistics 101).  None-the-less, I have a deep appreciation of how “crunching the numbers” can illustrate the world. Although the number crunching is why I turned into fivethirtyeight.com, I must admit, that I am equally enjoying the “On the Road” posts where Sean relays what he and his team are seeing on the ground. It has made so clear how Obama’s campaign is just a monster — the focus he has managed to keep for himself and send down and down and down and down the line is amazing and imposing.  Leadership.

What A Nightmare

October 18th, 2008

I’m trying to file amended tax returns for 2007, now that I can finally claim Carlo as a dependent as he has a social security number.

Ugh.  Its not pleasant.

Picture Day At Elementary School

October 16th, 2008

Noelle and Nicky have their pics taken today at school.  Noelle was very excited by the prospect and designed her outfit from pony tail and glittery gold head band, through pink shirt, brown mini-skirt, turquise leggings, and down to brown shoes.  I had to take a couple of head-to-toe pictures, as the school will only take torso and head shots. :-)

Picutre Day at Lore -- all dressed up

BTW — Mr. C. had an ear infection.  The tubes, which have done their job perfectly for 7 months are no longer effective (completely out in one ear and clogged full of wax in the other ear).  Three doses of amoxicillin later and he is doing just fine at school today.  And, now, I’m off to give the ENT a call. :-)

Bruise On His Chest, Bruise On His Butt, Tick On His Eyelid, and Fever of 103

October 14th, 2008

Mr. C had a rough day yesterday. :-)

I’m not sure where the bruises came from, though he careens around like a wild boy, so they are not too surprising.

He had one of those tiny ticks on his eyelid, of all places!  I kept trying to brush it away and it wouldn’t brush and I finally realized it wasn’t dirt.  I yanked it out.  It must have come from our walk on the tow path on Saturday night.

Yesterday, in the middle of the day he spiked a fever of 103^.  We cut short our shopping trip.  I though he looked mighty flushed and he was warm to touch when we got out of the car at JoAnn’s where we were heading in search of watercolor paper and fabric for an Anakin Skywalker outfit.  We used the potty and came home instead of shopping.  A dose of Tylenol and a long nap and the fever went away, not to return.  Carlo was pretty exhausted yesterday and I think it got warm back there in the back seat of the car as we were driving around so the kids could sleep (everyone had been up to midnight or so on Sunday evening).  I’m not sure if it was just those two things or if in the midst of that some little bug entered his body that his immune system would usually just swat at, only in the midst of all the exhaustion his body threw the book at that bug, instead.  The fever stayed away all night and he was feeling well enough to be a little trouble maker this morning, so I bundled him off to school. :-)
