Logistics

I used to travel into NYC 3 times a week - this was before kids (indeed I remember having a conversation with my boss about the whole working in NYC thing while I was waiting for Noelle). I had that patter down — I had to leave the house only 20 minutes befor the train arrived. Back in the day, I bought train tickets 9 at a time and kept mt back-pack wicked light and paper free.

Now-a-days, the logistics are insane, from lining up a babysitter, to making my little train schedue and subway map cheat sheet to dressing the kids the night before, making lunches and laying out breakfast, to moving carseats to the sitters car, to finding appropriate clothes that fit and are acceptably comfortable, to actual meeting prep. Its a multi-day affair just to make it to NYC and back for my 4 hour meeting.

It is done though. I’m on my way and almost there now and as an extra bonus, I got to try out one of the new, fancy double decker trains.
