The Power Of The Sticker

Posted on Sunday, February 25th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

We had a good day at the wedding yesterday.  The kids were good.  It was nice that Steven was there.  Without him providing a platform for Nicky, the kids and I probably would have had to leave mid-wedding, as I don’t have enough lap for both of them to climb on.  We stayed at the party till about 6:00 and then got a little lost finding 287 again … but we did find it and made it home.

We cleaned and cleaned this morning and the downstairs looks pretty presentable.  The floors aren’t crunchy any more, though they (and the bathrooms) could use a good scrubbing.  We’ll see if that happens today.  I still need to cook for the week and really want to straighten up my bedroom, so the floors and the bathrooms may get a pass until next week.

I’m cheating a little bit right now.  The kids are watching a DVD on the portable player in the playroom and I’ve got a Farscape on the big TV.  Laundry is going, chicken is defrosting, and home PC is backing up to DVD, so it’ll be back to the grindstone pretty soon.  :-)   I may try and clean up the scripts I’ve got going for work a little bit before heading back to the household stuff.  ‘Less the kids intervene — bad Momma, I may just let them watch another DVD.  I know the experts say we parents are supposed to limit their TV time, but they pretty much get none during the week and I certainly enjoy downtime in front of the TV after a crazy week.

Ah, the power of the sticker, that was supposed to be the subject …

:-)

We got home about 8:00 last night and both kids were, apparently, asleep.  I carried Nicky up and came back down to get Noelle and carry her up.  I got her to bed and out of undies and into a pull-up.  She didn’t crack an eye.  I went to take Nicky’s shoes off and he opened his eyes up and said, “I don’t want to go to bed.”  So, I let him come downstairs to watch the end of Chicken Little … which is what I had told both of them they could do in the car on the way home.  We sat here together and he watched his show while I folded laundry.  At the end of it he went into his moany act … “I want to stay with you.”  There was a time when I would have queried about whether he was sad or upset. Last night, I just had him do his going to bed routine.  He was still moaning about wanting to stay with me when I went to kiss him after teeth brushing, etc.  I told him that if he kept it up he would not get a sticker in the morning, as it would not count as a good night.  I guess it wasn’t a deep, soul wrenching need last night if that little half-inch in diameter letter P sticker was enough to assuage his need to “stay with me.”  :-) :-)

I have spent a couple hours reading your blog today and love it! Your adventures remind me sooooo much of my life as a foster mom, with 2 of the children in particular! And I can’t wait to have that life again, only this time it ending in adoption!
I am also on the international single adoption group!
    Happy Sunday!
