The House is a Wreck, the Dryer is Broken, But I Succeeded at Making An Ink-jet Transfer

Yeah!!!!

(The house truly is a mess … on our Saturday trip to Ikea with Uncles Adam and John we lost both Nicky’s bracelet and Noelle’s yellow blankie — truly a horror of horrors situation. I promised a new blankie for each of them in compensation. They got to choose the fabrics. I’m closing in on stiching off the binding on each now, but the living room floor is just coated with little snippets of red thread and fuzzy fabric).

(The dryer truly is broken … sigh. I popped open the dryer during the marathon laundry session of the weekend and it “popped” (not a good sound to hear from a dryer) and the light went out. I thought, eh, who needs the light. Only, the dryer would not start. Lights on the control panel came on, but it beep, beep, beeped like the door wasn’t shut when I tried to start it. At first I thought that maybe there was a fuse in the dryer proper, but the instructions do not highlight such a thing. Then I though, maybe the light *is* a fuse and is part of the circuit. So … yesterday, we had a long evening, as we went out to dinner and then ran out to Michael’s to get my art supplies, Target to get Noelle a new swimsuit - Nicky new sandles - ink for the printer - a new mixing bowl - and a 10 watt bulb for the dryer, and finally Home Depot to get the 10 watt appliance lightbulbs that Target did not carry. Turns out after getting home and taking the old light out, the dryer actually needs a 10 watt night-light bulb. Seeing as Noelle has been crashing with me, I just took the one out of her night-light. Sadly, that did not fix the dryer, which I suspect needs a new sensor to detect that the door is closed.)

After finally getting the kids off to bed last night, I indulged and tried my ink-jet transfer. I’ve been trying this for months … experimenting with different types of media: medium matte gel, medium gloss gel, fluid matte medium, regular copy paper, glossy photo paper, matte photo paper, even overheads. I’ve gotten some transfers that I could envision using in some multi-media pieces, but none that were what I wanted at this exact moment. Ah, but the internet is wonderful. I found a yahoo group of people interested in ink-jet transfers. :-) They suggested that what I needed was a very specific brand of Soft Gel Medium. Last night, we bought it at Michaels. It is going to work beautifully for my purposes.

Fancy that … the house is a wreck, the living room floor is scary, we still have ants despite the bug man (must give him another call tomorrow), there are dishes in the sink and the laundry that was in the washer when the dryer died is out on a clothes line in the rain and the mud, my many e-mail boxes are overflowing, my to do list at work is off the charts, the kids blankies are unfinished … yet it was a great night. :-)

I feel like I should buy a wardrobe of the “Life is Good” clothing.
