I could do without the whole middle section where he quotes the guy who bad mouths all the best sellers he labels as bad writing. I think life is more subjective than that.
I also found it very interesting that most of the commentators didn’t really “get” what he is talking about. Technology is going to catch up to the tactile feel of the printed book and be able to replicate it. In the near term. The technology behind flexible screens is moving fast. But, even that is not the point. Mr. Jarvis is trying to get at the fact that the new social networking world will eventually wear down the traditional publishing world. Everyone can publish content and the long-tail of the digital world has the potential to completely upend the publishing industry. I do think it will all co-exist for a good long time, but he is right in that our kids are in this new, digital, interactive, everyone is a creator space and they are not going to have the nostalgia we stodgy old folks have for paper and the static intake of content produced by others.
