Sweet 18 Month Old …
She is the cutest thing, trust me.
She was born on October 15, 2004 and has microtia of both ears (its a congenital deformity where the canal is closed and the ear is malformed — this little one appears to have the classic form). The earlier these kiddos with bilateral microtia start with a bone conduction hearing aid, the better it is for their long term speach abilities.
She is a darling, and, for those of you in the greater Trenton area, we have one the most highly rated schools for the deaf down around the corner from me, the Marie Katzenberg NJ School for the Deaf. Families with deaf children move across the State (or event the country) to live where we live. Its a state school and tuition is free, although your local school district must place the child in this school. They have a preschool and have audiologists and speach therapists on the very pretty campus. In addition, TCNJ is a big teaching school and has a program for teachers of the deaf, so we have easy access to relatively mature, ASL signing baby-sitters.
This little gal is with IAAP and they will very readily hand out usernames and passwords. Check her out. She needs to come home to her family soon.
