Fascinating … Text Messaging for College Recruitment
“This fall, Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio) became a high-tech pioneer when it added text messaging to its recruitment communications arsenal. “B-W welcomes Juniors to campus! Let us help you to get started on your college search with our ‘More-than-a-tour Tour.’ If you would like to attend reply Y,” said the initial message sent to select prospects.”
Business Technology: Text Messaging: The Newest Recruitment Innovation
This echoes the numbers given by Eric Schmidt on Google Press Day a couple of weeks ago that Google sees 3xs as many “searches” (presumably, finds not searches) from handheld devices as from computers.
I consider myself fairly “connected” and yet am definitely on the outside fo this new society being built by our youth.
E-mail is old school.
What a statement on our society … the implications are astounding … do you suppose this is just another example of society becoming more attached to their phones and more and more available to people who are not physically present, or is it something more? I tend to think more. Its a huge step closer to a world where we carry small & powerful personal computers on our person.
Just fascinating …

Amy — txt’ing is so old school. I like what Fitchburg did this year. If you were accepted to Fitchburg you got e-mail from them with a link to a PodCast from the president welecoming you.

Fitchburg, Mass.—Fitchburg State College believes that a modern student needs a modern acceptance letter.
That’s why the college’s Admissions Office is planning to use podcast technology to alert its accepted students for the fall 2006 semester. By the end of this month, more than 1,000 accepted freshmen will receive an e-mail that includes a link to an iTunes podcast that will feature Fitchburg State President Dr. Robert Antonucci telling them the good news.

This makes me very nervous. . .
Where does someone who can’t even IM stand these days?

Steven, Rachael ~
Oi! I feel down-right middle-aged.
I do IM, but only have my AIM account, as opposed to one on each platform. And, wouldn’t you know, I got my first text message the other day and Kathy had to email me to tell me she sent me a text message.
Society didn’t change this fast for our parents.

My Dad text messaged me for my birthday.
I was a little irritated when I got my bill and I had to pay for my birthday greetings!
Guess I should change my plan so I can text message!
