My Loves
We had a good time this evening. We spent about 20 minutes at Chuck-E-Cheese and the kids loved it. Nicky has been asking me to go back (2 months in the country and he is already a Chuck-E-Cheese addict). Then we had soup and sandwiches at Panera with Steve and Jon. Also fun. Afterward we went and took a look at the ground level fountains dancing outside. Well, anticiptaing which fountain or set of fountains would spout next may have been as much fun as Chuck-E-Cheese.
We came home to ice-cream and a tubby (we did 2 in the tubby this evening) and then it was time to go to bed. After getting Noelle into bed, I went down to put Nicky into bed. He was playing with the Lego Excavator we’d built sometime ago (let me tell you that the Legos of today are *not* the Legos I played with — this was supposed to be a little project to do while Noelle napped and it took us, or rather me, close to 5 hours!). He crawled into bed and I pulled the covers up. He was all smiles and giggles. We talked about what we should do tomorrow, he said, ” I don’t know.”
I said, “What do you think?”
“Auntie.” I explained that Auntie was 6 hours away (though I had thought about a trip up to see the new baby earlier in the week before deciding against it). “Anything else?”
“Outside, play.”
“That’s a good idea. We can play outside. Anything else we should do?”
“Home Depot.” “Lunch.”
“Ok, that sounds like a plan. We’ll go to Home Depot, play outside and have some lunch.” Sounds like a full day to me (and we need that Home Depot trip … its a long story, but I’ve managed to lock myself out of my big freezer in the basement, leading to a situation where I’m always dropping frozen food out of the freezer in the kitchen onto my toes, because it is packed so full — I’m pretty much cursing every morning as I try to get the ice packs out for the kids’ lunches).
Kisses and hugs and he went down easily. He goes to bed wonderfully well and sleeps through the night … mumbles sometimes, in English, but does not wake up or get excited. He usually sleeps in until I get him up after my shower and getting dressed. This morning, though, he was up and chipper even before I made it back downstairs. He shouted into the baby monitor, “Good morning, Momma.”
Not having a baby monitor in the reverse direction, I shouted downstairs in a loud voice, “Good morning, Nicky.” He came upstairs to join Noelle in poking at me while I dried off and dressed.
Then tonight at about 10:30, Noelle woke up and needed a drink of water. Afterward she crawled into bed with me (yes, I’m a sucker
). She was very intrigued by my activity. I was wearing my thimble and pulling all the straggly threads to the back of my project so I could tie them off. She thought the thimble was pretty cool, and it is. Its a true piece of jewelry — heavy and solid, its sterling silver through and through. It is fine artwork on its own. (On my request, Mom bought it for me for my birthday one year — I think they were cheaper 4 years ago!!!). I let her hold it and she told me that she was sure Emily, her good friend at school, would want to see it. I’m clearly going to have to keep my thimble out of Noelle’s reach! We were talking, in part so I could distract her from the death and mayhem occuring on my TV show of the hour. I explained that tomorrow she and I could work together to get the quilt wet to take off the sticky bits. She asked, “Peng, too.”
I got a bit teary eyed as I said, “Yes, Nicky too.”
She is pretty precious.
(And, she has been completely dry for 2 days. This evening she even warned me about needing to use the bathroom 3 times. She made it to the potty each time and we had no accidents.)
