Saturday in Guangzhou
Saturday was a good day. Noelle is doing better and may finally be on a China schedule. Oooh, its going to be a rough transition at home.
Saturday morning started off early with breakfast at the White Swan buffet of extremes before meeting the other CHI family and our guide at 9 am. Daniel rushed us off ahead of the big group of families coming up behind us. We went and got Peng’s visa photo taken and then went off for the medical. Peng did great in both places. Peng’s medical was, interesting. They do 150 non-special needs medical a month or so, with the occassional less severe special need. The main doctor looked over Peng and we spent a lot of time on the shunt (its very visible, so can’t just be overlooked). It wasn’t a word my guide had heard before, so he had a hard time translating it (we ran into this quite a bit this morning, actually). I had to explain what it was all about. The main doc went and got another doc and they consulted together. All this before we ever got to the sac on Peng’s back. Then they lifted his shirt. The sac took less conversation than the shunt, though. They did measure it and asked me if I was going to give him surgery to remove the “tumor” and fix him up. I said yes. Apparently this doc was a surgeon for many years, before taking this more desk type job.
At the end of the physical, the doctor said to me, “You are a very kind lady.”
Its funny, there really is no charity here, despite what others tend to think. He’s my son, as much as if I’d birthed him — he just happened to be born in China 6 years ago with a bit some special problems. I’d move the world for him. BTW — he is very, very bright. Wowser. These kids are going to be running circles around me, intellectually, in a couple of years.
After the medical, we came back to the hotel and hung out in the play room at the White Swan doing paperwork. It felt like it took 3 hours. Daniel is, umm, methodical.
The other family forgot some paperwork, but we all managed to work through to a solution. It required some mediation, but all ended well (as our visas are currently being processed at the consulate).
We just hung out around town and the hotel Saturday afternoon and evening. We have dined at Lucy’s quite a bit — its comfortable and relatively inexpensive.

Hi Amy!!
I am just loving following along on your journey.
Peng is amazing, I am overwhelmed to see him moving around and dancing.
We had the same experience at the medical with both of our girls, their back was very interesting and many doctors had to come and see.
Thanks for sharing your journey to your son with us, we are blessed because of it.
Blessings,
Micheline
