Busy Sunday in Guangzhou
Sunday was very busy for us. We got up for the breakfast buffet in time to meet Daniel and the other CHI family for our 1/2 day tour of Guangzhou at 9:30 am. We went to tour an ancient temple & school. I vetoed the pagoda on the hill, as we had done it last time. Daniel recommended this temple over the Six Banyan Tree Temple, claimed it has more architectural interest. It was very pretty. I’ve got less time to devote to paying attention to the tours now that I’ve got 2 kids running around. Poor Noelle keeps having to go potty while out and about, but she is unwilling to use the “little” potties (her words). In general, though, she is doing pretty good with the potty thing.
After the temple, Daniel and the driver did come through for us. Wouldn’t you know, the one thing I forgot was the Gameboy recharger!!!! Uh oh, I really want this sucker working on the looonnnng plane ride home. Daniel, our guide, had no idea what a Game Boy was, but, fortunately, the driver recently bought one for his son. We got to see a real Guangzhou shopping center. It was a 5+ story building with no real stores, but instead lots and lots and lots of stalls. It had these neat escalators and glass elevators. We could have bought all the Shamian Island gee gaws at a hugely cheaper price there.
After several floors and much searching, we found the Game Boy stall and they had a recharger. Daniel explained to Peng what it was all about and he was very excited (I don’t think so much about the ability to recharge the battery, but more about owning something else). The driver got a tip that day and will get a nice tip at the end of the stay. He did well, as did Daniel, who was way, way, way out of his comfort zone with this request.
We had the afternoon free and hung about the Island, the room, and the playroom. In the evening, we went on a dinner cruise. The dinner wasn’t any good, but the cruise itself was really cool. The entire business district of Guangzhou lights up like Times Square. It was impressive.
The kids went to bed late, late, late at about 10. They were a little wired and didn’t really calm down until I lay down, as well. In about 10 minutes, all 3 of us were asleep.
