Tuesday, Day Two

Posted on Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 at 7:55 pm

Tuesday was a good day, if a bit hectic. We started out at the police station to apply for Peng’s passport IMG_8203and then went to the park, where the kids played on all the adult exercise equipment. IMG_8221 IMG_8222We’d wanted to play on the carousel and bumper cars, but they did not open until later. After the park, we went to the grocery store because I really need to have some juice on hand for Noelle. Then we had lunch at a Muslim restaurant (mutton shishkebobs, noodles with a sauce of some sort and rice). It was tasty. Then back to the hotel where Noelle did not nap. I fell asleep for a bit, though. Then it was off to the local museum. IMG_8259There were some really cool mummies on the 2nd floor. It turns out that Xinjiang is so dry and hot in the desert areas that its a great location for finding preserved mummies. After the museum, we met up with the local director of Good Rock to hand over the hearing aid & gifts for a waiting child and the waterproof pants. Then back to the hotel for a period of rest.

Noelle finally fell asleep on the way to the museum at 4:30 or so. She slept through the museum and the ride back and the Good Rock meeting — in and out of the bus.  We finally woke her up for dinner.  She stayed awake to eat some and then said, “Going night-night on my chair” and curled up into a ball and went to sleep.  I woke her up back in the room and gave her and Peng a tubby together.  Success!!  They both got clean and I managed it all on my own. :-) IMG_8266 IMG_8265

We mostly slept through the night.  Noelle was up at 3 and slept on and off until 7 when we popped in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which is winding up, now).

Peng did really well yesterday and Noelle did well, too.  Peng had the sniffles when I received him and is up to a full blown cold, now.  The stress of major life changes makes you susceptible to such things.  I gave him a Sudafed this morning, so we’ll see if that helps.

Today is our free day.  Visiting with Amity didn’t pan out, but that’s OK.  We are going to go shopping this morning and swimming this afternoon.  The clothes I bought for Peng are all way too big. :-)

    You have Peng!

I have read all your posts and wactched the slides and video. The video is definitely my favorite! Your boy is not shy, is he? :~) Seems to looove an audience. How fun is he going to be at home!

I also noteiced that you have a photo that showed how Peng danced with a friend at the SWI. The other boy was watching Peng for cues—I think Peng is quite a leader. Nice qulities for a young boy to have.

Keep up the good work, Mom. Everyone looks great. Safe travels. Happy memories!
