Auntie and the Zoo

Posted on Monday, January 30th, 2006 at 11:39 am

We had a grand time with an impromptu visit to the zoo on Saturday. We had taken Auntie down to Ikea to return a white board for Nicky which I decided was way too heavy … in its place I got a mirror for Nicky, which is probably way too heavy. :-) We also left with a couple more of the $.99 clocks (so Noelle will stop taking Peng’s), a couple of $.49 flashlights (and, in hindsight, I should have grabbed more :-) ), and a $12.99 trainset (which, with a small amount of force can be used with the Thomas the Train sets Noelle already has). I think I probably like setting up the train routes more than Noelle likes playing with them, although she does enjoy them, herself.

On our way out of town down Columbus, we decided to indulge Noelle’s desire to see duckies and go to the zoo. I will say that the Philadelphia Zoo is going to get a letter from me, as their “household” family membership is really quite discriminatory against those of us who are single parent families. I don’t have a regular 2nd person to put on the card. I should be able to take my second adult as whomever I bring with me on that day. Harumph.

As with last time, the tree house play area, train ride, and the duckies in the children’s zoo were definitely Miss Noelle’s favorites. Aunt Rachael even introduced her to the concept of feeding the duckies, so I need to be sure to carry quarters with me to the zoo from now on. :-) :-) Almost equal to the duckies were the hotdogs, chips, candy bar and cinnamon rolls at the Ikea cafĂ©. It is clear to me that we will need to always time Ikea trips to end just before or to start just before lunch. :-)
